Slovenian battle for titles this Sunday in Bike park Pohorje and some fast Austrian competition as well. With timed practice, draw of Kenda tires and a package with accommodation.
So finally we are putting this show on the road! This Sunday, August 9th, the 2020 Unior Downhill Cup starts in Bike park Pohorje above the city of Maribor with DH Visit Pohorje. This is also this year’s Slovenian National Championships race.
This year’s races will be single-day events. In case of Maribor this means the semi-final and final runs held on Sunday. But the track will open for practice on Friday even if it remains open for all park guests until Sunday’s event.
This year Maribor will host no less than four downhill races. After UDC opening race, the iXS European Downhill Cup follows on September 25-27, then two Mercedes UCI Mountain Bike World Cup races from October 15 to 18. There are not many possibilities to alter the track with the exception of some short sections so it remains practically the same for all events.
Slovenia vs. Austria
Along with Slovenians there will be a number of Austrians getting familiar with the track this weekend, headed by David Trummer (The YT Mob), the UCI ranking #8, and Valentina Höll (SRAM TLD Racing), #11 of women’s ranking in her first elite season. This is also the qualification race for Team Austria for 2020 World Championships in Leogang.
So the main favourites for Slovenian Champion titles, Jure Žabjek (Unior Devinci Factory Racing) and Monika Hrastnik (Team Dorval AM) wil have some good rivals on track. Jure will be defending his 2019 title and going for his 5th in elite category which would make him the most successful in the 29-year history of the Championships. Slovenian didn’t have an elite women’s Cham in 2019 while Monika will try to grab her 4th title.
Here’s Sunday’s schedule: practice from 9am to 1pm, semi-final run from 2pm and final from 4.30pm.

Timed practice and other goodies for riders
The organizers made sure the riders will have a great weekend even if the official part is only on Sunday.
First: the organized timing during practice on Friday (from 3pm to 6.40pm) and Sunday (from noon to 6.40pm). For the price of 10€ a rider gets a timing transponder for two days. Times will be live online.
All riders with transponders will also be in the draw for a pair on Kenda Tires, event’s title sponsor. Tires of their choice since the Try Before Ya Buy test center in gondola base is well stocked. The tires will also be on sale all weekend for -30%. The draw will be held after Sunday’s award presentation.
And another nice one for the riders: accommodation packages in Hotel Arena are available along with entry fees. Or put it like this: stay in Hotel Arena and the entry fee is free.
