Salona DH to open 2022 Unior Downhill Cup series this weekend. A Croatian-Slovenian clash, rematch of DH Lošinj, and Croatian National Championships.
It’s race time. Top riders from Croatia and Slovenia are gathering in Dalmatia, Croatia this weekend for the opening round of Unior Downhill Cup series. The race that finishes in town of Solin just outside of Split, Croatia’s second largest city, is also the 2022 Croatian National Championships race.
So all the top Croatian riders will be going for their national titles and jerseys, but at the same time they will try to prove their speed compared to the rivals from Slovenia. Like the Croatian National Team rider and former national champion Ivan Bašić on one side and Slovenian Unior – Sinter Factory Racing riders Jure Žabjek and Žak Gomilšček on the other side. Or Croatian junior champion Frane Medić defending home turf from Slovenians like he managed three weeks ago at the opening round of the iXS European Downhill Cup on the island of Lošinj. Except Slovenian Luka Berginc, the men’s elite winner from Lošinj, will sit this one out and rather wait for iXS EDC round 2 in Maribor, Slovenia, on May 6-8.
The Salona track
The race will be held on a freshly built 1.5 km track with a vertical drop of 400 m. At the average grade of 29% that’s steep enough. There is a wet weekend ahead but it any case a wet course in this case doesn’t mean it’s slippery and any more dangerous as it is in the dry. The dirt will pack better in the wet even though the track will be changing over the weekend.

The final run starts at 4 pm on Sunday and live timing will be available at www.livetest.amk-trogir.hr
