The coaching staff of Glasgow Warriors, under the leadership of Franco Smith, faces a significant challenge in ensuring all their high-quality players receive adequate game time.
In the second row, the Glasgow Warriors squad likely possesses the most intense competition. Franco Smith has six first-team level players at his disposal: Scott Cummings and Gregor Brown, both of whom represented the British & Irish Lions last summer, newcomer Alex Craig, as well as the promising trio of Alex Samuel, Max Williamson, and Jar O`Guntibeju.
The difficulty for the coaching staff is compounded by the fact that each of these talented athletes is vying for regular playing opportunities. Samuel, for instance, already had a chance to start against the Sharks, making a strong statement at the end of last season. However, even successful performances do not guarantee a stable spot in the lineup due to the extensive selection available to Franco Smith.
For the Warriors, who reached the URC semi-finals last season, squad depth is simultaneously a significant advantage and a considerable challenge. On one hand, effective rotation allows them to maintain a consistently high performance level throughout the season; on the other, the coaching staff will have to meticulously find a balance to optimally utilize everyone without compromising vital team chemistry and morale.
