Veteran coach Jamie Joseph will lead New Zealand`s second national rugby team, considered the immediate talent pool for the All Blacks, on an upcoming European tour.
Highlanders head coach Jamie Joseph has officially been appointed as the head coach of New Zealand`s second national squad for a two-year term, succeeding Clayton McMillan in the role.
Joseph boasts an impressive coaching resume, having guided the Highlanders to their historic first Super Rugby title in 2015 and significantly elevated the performance of the Japan national team. His new assignment involves preparing the All Blacks` closest reserves for a November tour. During this tour, the team is scheduled to play against the Barbarians, England`s second national team, and a third opponent whose identity will be revealed at a later date.
Joseph`s coaching staff will include the same assistants who worked with the team last year: Jamie McIntosh, David Hill, and Cory Jane. The final squad selection is expected to be announced on October 14.
New Zealand Rugby emphasized that Joseph`s extensive experience as both a player and a coach makes him an optimal choice for this position. They view the second national team as a crucial link in the development pathway for national talent. The Highlanders club expressed pride in Joseph`s appointment and confidence that he will play a significant role in shaping the next generation of New Zealand rugby leaders.
