Preview Mark Cavendish Concludes Historic Professional Cycling Career

The world of professional cycling bids farewell to one of its most iconic figures as Mark Cavendish announces his retirement from the sport. The illustrious career of the Manx Missile will officially conclude this weekend at the Tour de France Criterium in Singapore.

Cavendish had initially planned to retire in 2023, but a crash during that year`s Tour de France led him to postpone his decision. His perseverance paid off significantly last summer when he made history by claiming his 35th stage victory at the Tour de France, surpassing Eddy Merckx`s long-standing record for the most stage wins in the prestigious race.

A Reflection on a Legendary Career

“Sunday will be the final race of my professional cycling career,” Cavendish shared. “I am lucky enough to have done what I love for almost 20 years and I can now say that I have achieved everything that I can on the bike. Cycling has given me so much and I love the sport, I`ve always wanted to make a difference in it and now I am ready to see what the next chapter has in store for me. Thank you, everyone, for all the support, always.”

Throughout his remarkable journey, the sprinter from the Isle of Man accumulated an astounding 165 professional race victories. Among his most significant achievements are the 2011 UCI Road World Championship title, where he sprinted to glory, and an Olympic silver medal for Great Britain in the omnium at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games. His career is a testament to incredible dedication, raw speed, and an unwavering will to win, cementing his legacy as one of cycling`s all-time greats.
