The management of “Newcastle Red Bulls” has officially announced significant changes within its administrative hierarchy, signaling a bold new direction for the club as it looks to strengthen its operations and future prospects.

Steve Diamond has been dismissed from his position as Director of Rugby. In his place, a newly assembled management team, strategically designed to bolster the club`s capabilities across all operational fronts, has been formally introduced:

Key Appointments in the New Management Team:

  • Neil McIlroy is set to assume the pivotal role of Sporting General Manager, effective November 1. His extensive experience includes successful stints with “Catalan Dragons” and the esteemed top-tier club “Clermont”, bringing a wealth of knowledge to Newcastle.
  • Alan Dickens, who has served diligently as the club`s Senior Coach since 2024, receives a well-deserved promotion to Head Coach. In this elevated role, he will directly report to Neil McIlroy, ensuring a cohesive and integrated leadership structure.
  • John Fletcher, renowned for his past leadership as England U18 Head Coach and Head of Development at the Scottish Rugby Union, will take charge of the Academy and all development initiatives, commencing December 1. His focus will be on nurturing the next generation of talent.
  • Jonny Petrie, formerly the successful CEO of “Ulster” and Managing Director of “Edinburgh”, will join as Newcastle`s Managing Director from October 6. His primary focus will be on driving the club`s commercial growth and executing strategic development plans.

In an official statement released by the club, it was emphatically emphasized that these comprehensive personnel changes reflect a “deep and long-term commitment to nurturing local talent, delivering a superior experience for supporters, and consistently achieving sporting excellence at the highest level.” This significant restructuring is intended to lay a robust foundation for future success and sustained growth within the rugby community.
