Preview Perpignan Faces Fresh Penalties Over Fan Incidents

The Catalan rugby club, Perpignan, has once again been hit with significant sanctions stemming from the conduct of its supporters and players. In total, the club is obligated to pay fines amounting to 50,000 euros.

The Disciplinary Committee of the National Rugby League has rendered its verdict following a review of incidents during the Top 14 Round 4 match between Perpignan and Racing 92. The game, held on September 20th at the Aimé Giral stadium, saw Perpignan found culpable of several transgressions, including an on-field brawl involving players, the throwing of objects from the stands, and a spectator unauthorizedly entering the playing area.

For their involvement in the skirmish, both Perpignan and Racing 92 were each fined five thousand euros. Perpignan incurred an additional five thousand euro penalty specifically for the fan intrusion incident. However, the most substantial repercussions were for the throwing of objects from the stands, leading to a hefty 40,000 euro fine and a one-match suspension of their home stadium. As a result, Perpignan`s Round 10 fixture against Montpellier, scheduled for November 21st, will now be relocated to a neutral venue situated at least 75 km away from their home ground. The Stade Raoul-Barrière in Béziers is currently considered the most likely alternative location for this match.
