Former Wales scrum-half Rhys Webb has embraced a significant new role in the United Arab Emirates.
“Throughout my rugby career, I travelled the world, and I was always drawn to the local lifestyle and weather. For the past decade, my wife, our three sons, and I have holidayed in Dubai. After retiring from professional rugby, I yearned to return to a normal routine – simple things like shopping, visiting parks, and spending quality time with my family.
Dubai seemed like the ideal place: safe, welcoming, and a wonderful environment for our children to grow up in. Now, I truly feel at home here and can dedicate all my attention to my kids. This is precisely why you see so many former athletes moving here to find that sense of normality. I was fortunate enough to meet an incredible individual and entrepreneur, Rob Webb, who offered me the opportunity to lead Eden Rose Middle East. This is a global search firm specialising in financial and professional services. I currently serve as a director at this growing company, responsible for its expansion and influence across the Middle East.”
“The rugby community here is incredibly dynamic. One club alone has over 800 children participating. Across the region, numerous clubs are nurturing young talent. The atmosphere is sunny, relaxed, and full of smiles. Everyone is friendly and eager to improve, which is very noticeable. They are passionate about the game, focused on skill development, recovery, nutrition, and education. Their dedication, both on and off the field, is truly inspiring. They champion a fast, exciting style of rugby, which is precisely what the game needs,” Webb stated.
Rhys also expressed his intention to act as a bridge between Welsh rugby and the UAE rugby community, fostering closer ties and development opportunities.
