Preview The Super League

The Super League was a proposed European football competition championed by prominent English, Spanish, and Italian clubs, including Manchester United, Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Atlético de Madrid, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona, Inter Milan, AC Milan, and Juventus Turin. This venture was intended to directly rival the UEFA Champions League, potentially causing a seismic shift in the organization of European and global football. The concept envisioned twenty participating clubs: fifteen founding members and five invited teams. The financial backing for this ambitious project was to come from the bank JP Morgan, with an estimated investment of several billion dollars. However, in the face of widespread outcry and opposition, the signatory clubs withdrew their support within days, leading to the suspension of the project.
