Preview West Ham United Sacks Potter, Set to Appoint Nuno Espirito Santo

West Ham United has reportedly dismissed manager Graham Potter following a disastrous start to the season. The club is now expected to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as his successor, according to reliable sources.

Potter`s dismissal comes just two days before Everton`s visit to the London Stadium, a reflection of West Ham`s poor form. The Hammers have secured only one win and suffered five defeats across all competitions. Since Potter`s appointment in January, following his previous stints at Brighton and Chelsea, there had been no consistent improvement in the team`s performance.

The official confirmation of Nuno`s appointment is anticipated swiftly. Barring any unexpected complications, he is expected to take charge imminently, though it remains to be seen if he will be in the dugout for the upcoming Everton fixture. Nuno, known for his solid and effective football philosophy, previously managed Wolverhampton Wanderers and Nottingham Forest. Notably, he led Forest to an impressive seventh-place finish in the Premier League, securing their first European campaign in 29 years.

A primary task for Nuno will be to fortify West Ham`s defense, which has leaked a league-worst 13 goals in just five matches this season. Ironically, in his final press conference on Friday afternoon, Potter had acknowledged the need for defensive improvements. He also surprisingly revealed having `positive talks` with the club owners regarding his future, only hours before his dismissal was announced.

The confirmation of Potter`s sacking arrived the following morning via an official West Ham statement. The club explained that “Results and performances over the course of the second half of last season and the start of the 2025/26 season have not matched expectations, and the board of directors believe that a change is necessary in order to help improve the team`s position in the Premier League as soon as possible.” The statement also confirmed the immediate departure of his entire coaching staff, including assistant coach Bruno Saltor, first-team coaches Billy Reid and Narcis Pelach, lead goalkeeper coach Casper Ankergren, and goalkeeper coach Linus Kandolin.
