According to the latest reports from Fabrizio Romano and The Athletic, Rodri is poised to sign with FC Barcelona very soon. Manchester City has reportedly agreed to part ways with their star midfielder, who was named Ballon d'Or winner in 2024 and best player of the 2026 World Cup, for an offer nearing €76 million.

The most anticipated "Here we Go" of this transfer window has finally arrived. With his signature phrase, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano announced on his social media channels this Sunday evening that an agreement has been reached between Manchester City and FC Barcelona for the transfer of Spanish midfielder Rodri.

"Everything is settled" for the former Ballon d'Or winner, states Fabrizio Romano, revealing that the Cityzens were convinced by Barcelona's latest offer, which also respects the midfielder's desire to move. All terms with the player were already agreed upon, as he is eager to return to Spain; only the agreement between the two clubs was pending.

An €80 Million Valuation Nearly Undid the Deal for Barça

This deal progressed rapidly within a week, following three unsuccessful offers from the Barcelona management. The fourth attempt proved successful.

Determined not to undersell Rodri, who had just been crowned the best player of the 2026 World Cup, Manchester City managed to push Barcelona's offer up from €50 million to €76.5 million, according to the latest insights from The Athletic.

City will receive an initial fee of €60 million, plus €16.5 million in bonuses, and Rodri will sign a four-year contract, as reported by The Athletic.

Was Yamal Heavily Involved?

The Spanish midfielder had entered the final year of his contract with the Cityzens just a few weeks ago. Desiring to return to Spain, which he left in 2019, the former Atletico player had already turned down Real Madrid in early August, preferring to join several of his Spanish national teammates already at Barça: Joan Garcia, Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Pedri, and Lamine Yamal.

According to the Spanish newspaper Ok Diaro, these players presented him with a more attractive sporting project. Sport, on the other hand, reports that Lamine Yamal was very involved in this transfer operation.
