Ancelotti reassures about Giroud's injury: "We were scared"
Olivier Giroud's left knee injury during Lille's friendly match against Everton sparked immediate concern. The striker was substituted in the 23rd minute after twisting his knee, but manager Davide Ancelotti has since offered reassuring news.
Despite an initial scare when Giroud suffered a "strong pain" after a challenge, Ancelotti stated, "We were scared, but the news is reassuring." The French forward, who is set to celebrate his 40th birthday in September, recently extended his contract with Lille for another year. Last season, he scored 11 goals in 44 appearances across all competitions, helping the team qualify for the Champions League.
Giroud was a starter in the friendly, with the Ligue 1 season commencing in a week. He is expected to be available for Lille's opening match against Angers, although further assessment will be conducted. "I think he can be available during the week for Angers. But we will have to look closely at what he has," Ancelotti added.
