PSG Secures Signing of Aston Villa Defender Lucas Digne
Paris Saint-Germain has finalized the acquisition of Lucas Digne from Aston Villa, activating the £8.5 million release clause in his contract.
The French international has committed to a three-year agreement with the reigning European champions, marking his return to the Parc des Princes over a decade after his initial tenure at the club.
Digne previously played for PSG for three years before transferring to Barcelona in 2016. He now returns after eight seasons in the Premier League, having represented Everton and Aston Villa.
“I am very honored to be returning to Paris Saint-Germain after the wonderful experience I had here more than ten years ago,” stated Digne. “I am particularly impressed by how the club has developed over the years.”
The 33-year-old is anticipated to offer competition to Nuno Mendes for the left-back position within Luis Enrique's squad.
Digne joined Aston Villa from Everton in January 2022 and made a substantial impact during his time at Villa Park, contributing to the club's Europa League victory last season – their first major trophy since 1996.
His departure sees him become the third senior player to leave Villa this summer, following Morgan Rogers' move to Chelsea and Youri Tielemans' transfer to Manchester United.
PSG, who successfully defended their Champions League title last season by defeating Arsenal in the 2026 final, have reinforced their squad with the addition of the experienced full-back as they aim to retain their European crown.
